While Dwyer may not be a gem among ballparks that have come along in recent years, it, along with Falcon Park in Auburn, were both remodled in the
mid-90's. I've had the pleasure of attending games at both the ballparks, which by the way are almost identical, and Dwyer certainly was a great
place to watch a game. It was more than serviceable for a Short A team. I don't know specifically what has caused their decline, but I really don't
think it's the ballpark. Batavia is really small-town America and, like many other small towns, maybe it just can't support a team in today's
environment. I love these small parks and I'm just glad they haven't given up the ship just yet.

I agree with you 100%, Mudhen. When Dwyer Stadium was rebuilt in the mid 1990's, it wasn't supposed to be anything fancy. It is pretty much identical
to Auburn and similar to Oneonta. So if those cities can continue to host NYPL teams, I'm not sure why Batavia can't. I realize the day is coming
when minor league baseball won't be in any of these small towns, but while they are, we should all support them and promote them as much as possible.

It is hard to make money in affiliated ball with only a single concession stand. The losses suffered by Genessee are pretty well-documented, so it's hard
to say Batavia has been this huge success on the financial side.

Oh, people are staying away from Dwyer Stadium because they only have a single concession stand ? I'm sure that is more than sufficient for the crowds
they get. If they could make more money by simply adding more concession stands, I'm sure they would have done that years ago. Let's be realistic -
even if Batavia built a new $20 million ballpark (which would never happen), the attendance would not increase by much.
I really hope that Batavia (as well as Auburn and Oneonta) resists the urge to sell their team to the highest bidder. Small towns deserve to have minor league baseball as well. How boring would it be if all the minor league teams were located in big cities and suburbs ? Brian |

That's not what I am saying. But I assume you know enough about the business of baseball to know what a per cap is. > I'm sure that is more than sufficient for the crowds they get. But they didn't, and the Red Wings are. You know I love the small community parks as much or more than you do, Brian; I wouldn't be involved in the Northwoods League if I didn't. But I think it's not tenable to demand someone continually lose money because you love the vibe of a small park. And if there's no prospects for increased attendance, then that team will be gone. |

for better or for worse baseball is a business and when biz isnt very good sometimes ya gotta get a new address . dwyer may wind up in the nycbl along with
many other ex nypl towns which wont be the end of the world for batavia or other possible towns like it . this is nothing against batavia or dwyer as ive seen
nypl ball there and i enjoyed myself
